I have loved animals since I was a child. I have had many pets from Hermit Crabs to a Vietnamese Potbelly Pig. I particularly took an interest in dogs, their behavior and training to be their best.
I purchased a Rottweiler from a backyard breeder. I took a series of puppy classes. Upon completion I felt they were not helpful and did not cater to the needs of the owner and dog specifically. This coupled with early signs of aggressive behavior, forced me into learning more about the breed, general dog aggression, other behavioral issues and medical issues that can cause behavioral issues. I educated myself on alternative training methods, behavioral modification and so much more.
My Rottweiler lived to be 13 and was very well behaved. I did a lot of training with him and found some underlying medical issues that caused some of his aggression. He was never 100% trusted around others. I worked him daily and was in tune with the signs he showed before becoming defensive, protective, fearful and aggressive. I found most of his aggression to be fear based. We learned to live a certain way with him in our household and around others. He loved us fiercely as we did him.
It was this experience in my life that made me realize that every dog has its own story. We can’t just add a dog as a pet to our household and expect it to be what we want. We need to understand the dog, its needs, our needs, and how we can coexist together.
This experience also taught me that all aggression is NOT the same. In my 23 years of experience as a dog trainer I have become passionate about helping those with dogs with behavioral issues and in particular aggression.
